Kenotic Metanoia

Some people may recognize Lacey Sturm as the co-founder and lead singer of Flyleaf. In February 2016 Lacey Sturm released her first solo project Life Screams. Sturm continued with her solo project and launched a new album worldwide on November 17, 2023, called Kenotic Metanoia. What amazes me is the album has two greek words - Kenotic refers to a state of emptying of self, and Mentanoia means "changing one's mind". “Kenotic metanoia” is the demand to address and respond to that truth, a call to leave one version behind.

Lacey says "Kenotic Metanoia is a story of where we've been, where we are, and where we want to go. Things in life don't always happen in the time we want, but we've had to learn to embrace the adventure that life is and be present as it unfolds, whatever that looks like... It is us reaching out to receive out to receive grace, to live each day, with open hands, open and an open heart." "All these songs have been for my own heart." "When David sings the Psalms, a lot of the time he’s telling his soul what to do. That’s me too in this: telling my soul, singing what I know to be true.”

This album has 15 tracks with singles Awaken Love, Reconcile, and Breathe Into Me. Every single song of this album holds the intention, grace, love, and power. This album is not a song-skipper what's so ever. The song Thief has a chorus that says

You never have to leave

So tell him shut up, get back, shut up

For you I fight

Defend you day and night

So get up, speak up, sing out, shout out
