Summer Class of Pop Punk

*Bell Rings* Class in session at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, MI on July 31, 2024.

Idobi Radio puts on a mini festival called Summer Tour which is filled with talented young pop-punk music artists! This tour consists of bands Letdown, Honey Revenge, Stand Atlantic, The Home Team, Magnolia Park, and Scene Queen.

LETDOWN

Starting the stage on Thursday night was Letdown. This band delivered a performance you would not regret especially when they were only the first openers! Letdown had a burst of high energy and brought the audience to awe! The setlist was blending with pop, emo, and punk. Blake the vocalist of Letdown was very captivating and matched perfectly with the band's sounds! If they tour again here in Michigan you should definitely go check them out! definitely a band that doesn’t disappoint!

HONEY REVENGE

Next up we have a thrilling pop punk band called Honey Revenge. They were opening with their latest single “Distracted” that released back in May of this year. Honey Revenge is a newer band that most people discovered over social media platforms mostly TikTok. The energy moved from relaxed between the sets - to upbeat energy with the vocals, strong guitar riffs, and drumbeats making the audience from the front to the balcony made everyone jump and sing along! One of the highlights of the night was towards the end of their song “Worst Apology” Devin lead singer jumped down from the stage and passed the barricade and to finish the song off danced and jumped with the crowd. It was a party pit I guess you could call it. Donny Lloyd their guitarist as you can see in the photos had a blast of smiles every single song. Honey Revenge is another band to look out for when you come near your town!

STAND ATLANTIC

As the night was unknown of the lineup next up was a band all the way from Australia Stand Atlantic. STATs LIVE performance proved the standout acts in the pop-punk culture the scene way. The band kicked off their setlist with the track called Warzone released back this February. Following the list were Jurassic Park, Hair Out, Girl$. Bonnie has the most powerful voice out of this tour because when she sings it and means it… she means it but also in a powerful fun way. She also knows how to draw attention to the crowd to participate in waving their arms and singing along. All the band members were moving around the stage and interacting with each other and throughout the crowd. The last time I saw STAT was when they toured here in Pontiac with Set It Off back in 2022 they have not gone downhill at all but as a matter of fact went up!

THE HOME TEAM

Ahhh yes The Home Team had an unforgettable night they performed a magnificent electrifying set. Royal Oak was capturing energy all over the place from the moment they took the stage to the end. The Home Teams vocalist Brian soared through his vocals with his nice high notes. The crowd had the same energy as Brian’s as he danced his way through each song. Guitarists John Baran and Ryan Olson drummer Daniel Matson, had the most high-octane performance through all the band members. From kicking to jumping in thin air. The Home Team recently released their new album “The Crucible of Life” which dropped on July 12, 2024. Their setlist was mixed with new songs and even some of fan favorites from their album Slow Bloom including “Move It Or Lose It” and Right Through Me. The Home Team shows how much they have fun with each other on stage which makes it more fun to watch for us. What a fantastic performance that blew my mind again will be seeing them again.

MAGNOLIA PARK

Hiking up here from the state of Florida is Magnolia Park. Magnolia Park's music is a little heavier pop punk out of all the bands but that didn’t change the crowd's perspective. They have tight connections with each other on stage and definitely have nice interactions with the crowd. The highlight of the night was while singing “Unholy Night” Devin made an appearance on stage once again to sing with the band since she’s featured in the actual studio track. I would say Magnolia Park is one of the average bands they still try their best on stage but it’s not high energy, unlike the other bands.

SCENE QUEEN

When you see Pink on stage you know who is coming already and her name is Scene Queen (aka Hannah Collin’s). The moment Scene Queen hit the stage crowd from the barricade captivated them. Her voice was really confident, and emotive, and fired raps in between songs. The setlist was a mix of Scene Queens top hits such as Barbie & Ken, Pink Rover, Pink Panther, and 18+. Scene Queen's performance ending the night at Royal Oak was a class of fashion.

The School Summer Tour was a masterclass in bringing into July. It brings so many unique young talented bands for them to get a chance to expand their music with fans. Each band gave it their all with style and energy making an unforgettable night. If you have a chance to catch this tour near you do not miss it! Support these talented artists for sure!
